Challenging Unlawful Housing Practices & Supporting Haitian Immigrants

The Legal Aid Society filed a federal class action complaint against New York City and the New York City Housing Authority challenging their unlawful policy of routinely subjecting NYCHA residents and their guests to unlawful stops and arrests purportedly to enforce the trespass laws.

As a result of a lawsuit filed by the Juvenile Rights Practice, State officials issued a directive prohibiting the use of routine shackling of youth transported to Family Court.

We were identified by New York City as one of the key organizations to assist eligible Haitian immigrants in receiving Temporary Protected Status, following the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
