LAS Hails Bipartisan Support for Repeal of Walking While Trans Law

The Legal Aid Society praised the growing support from lawmakers and community groups across the state to repeal New York’s Walking While Trans law, a discriminatory loitering law that primarily affects transgender women of color. According to the NY State Division of Criminal Justice Services, in 2018 91% of individuals arrested under the loitering law in 2018 were Black or Latinx and 80% were women, reports Gay City News.
