Judith Goldiner, Attorney-in-Charge of The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Law Reform Unit, appeared on NY1’s Inside City Hall to discuss New York’s eviction crisis and what Albany lawmakers must do to protect tenants at risk of losing their homes.
“[The Governor] could have issued a general moratorium, and that’s what he should have done, because that would have protected people more. What he did is something procedural, he just sent it back to the state courts and told them ‘you decide whether there’s going to be a moratorium,’” said Goldiner,
“So there continues to be a moratorium. But unless the state courts keep it – and we’re not sure if they’re going to – people have to be prepared that evictions could start happening,” she continued.
