LAS Secures Dismissal Of Top Charge Pending Against Client Assaulted By NYPD

The Legal Aid Society called on the Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. to dismiss all charges pending against a client, Joseph, who was brutally attacked by officers while peacefully riding the subway earlier this May. After body-worn camera footage went viral on the internet and social media of the assault, DA Vance dismissed the top felony charge pending against Joseph. However, despite seeing this horrific video, DA Vance’s Office only offered an adjournment contemplation of dismissal (ACD) for the remaining resisting arrest charge.

“It’s shameful that it takes a bad headline for Vance and his [assistant district attorneys] to finally do right by our vulnerable clients,” said Edda Ness, a staff attorney with Legal Aid’s Manhattan Trial Office.
