Watch: What TV Cops Don't Tell Us About Real Ones

Jennvine Wong, a staff attorney with The Legal Aid Society’s Cop Accountability Project, was featured in a piece on Vice News addressing the discrepancy of how police are depicted in entertainment media versus reality.

A review of American police TV shows revealed a problematic portrayal of policing, as officers routinely break rules and violate the rights of suspects in the role of protagonists, with no consequences for their behavior.

“You have supervisors who were allowed to rise through the ranks and are now encouraging these officers to engage in misconduct and saying to them ‘You don’t have to worry about the consequences, I will protect you,’” said Wong. “We don’t have bad apples, we have a bad system.”
